COVID-19 can't stop us from moving.

To our Stakeholders,

It with heavy hearts that the Board of Directors announce the temporary studio closure of City in Motion on October 31, 2020 due to COVID-19. Protecting the health and safety of our dancers, teachers, and community during the pandemic has left us mutually decided to close our physical doors until further notice. As board member Jacob Swaney so eloquently put it, “[We are not closing], we’re on an intermission.” In the meantime, our team of board & artistic directors are creating ways to continue bringing dance for everyBODY during this time.
After offering 2 full virtual sessions over Summer & Fall, a community festival to bid "farewell" to our studios, and a site-specific improv performance with our Youth Dance Theater, City in Motion is grateful for the opportunity to stay connected during these unknown times. Please visit this page often, and for more up-to-date details, visit our facebook page.

Winter Wellness Session

Starting December 2, our fantastic City in Motion teachers are offering three individual wellness classes via Zoom. Our gift to you for the month of December as a small token of thanks. To register for all the links you need, simply email and mention the Winter 2021 Virtual Classes. We wish you a healthy new year, full of movement! Thank you for being part of our City in Motion community!

School of Dance

To quote our current School Director, Tracie Jensen, “We are a people. We are not a brick and mortar, we are not a basement, and we are not a dance floor. We are a people.”

To play, press and hold the enter key. To stop, release the enter key.

That being said, many of you know and love Tracie, as your teacher, fellow dancer, volunteer coordinator, and so much more. For her dedication, tenacity, and persistence during a time when coordinating a school of dance is next to impossible, we thank her. Tracie will be stepping down as School Director of City in Motion after Summer session, still active as Co-Artistic Director of our Professional Dance Company.

There are many unknowns the Board of Directors is facing in the next few months, which has ultimately lead us to make the decision to not renew our lease with Plexpod Westport Commons for the coming Fall as part of the temporary closure. The team at Plexpod has been huge partners of City in Motion, believing in our mission and supporting our ability to bring dance to everyBODY. It is our every intention to return to Plexpod when it is safe and we are financially sound.

Stay connected to CIM

At the end of the day, dance is and has always been for everyBODY. City in Motion will continue to ideate new and creative ways to bring dance to our audiences during the pandemic. We also want to remain connected and listening to our community during this time. Please use our Stakeholders Survey to share any thoughts, ideas or feedback with us.
