COVID-19 can't stop us from moving.
In challenging times like these, the priority of City in Motion Dance Theater remains to provide the same exceptional contemporary dance programming that we have for offered for over 30 years, as well as caring for the health and well-being of our staff, patrons, and partners in this difficult time. We understand the non-profit industry uniquely feels this crisis, and our Board of Directors want to reinforce our commitment to address challenges and minimize disruptions during this unprecedented time. Below are some resources we have made available to support the changing needs of City in Motion’s staff and patrons:
We have committed to paying our faculty for the originally scheduled Spring Session. Here is our re-opening plan starting June 15th.
Our incredible teachers are offering FREE virtual classes online in the meantime. Classes start April 20th via Zoom, and can be tuned into LIVE Monday thru Thursday, 7PM CST. A full lineup of our class recordings will be available 24/7 on our Youtube channel for everyBODY. For the complete schedule, visit our Facebook page.
We have moved dates of upcoming performances in order align with Kansas City’s plan for loosening Stay-at-Home restrictions: our Professional Company Concert has been postponed to October, date and venue TBD. Our team is closely monitoring the order for further decisions on summer events.
We have extended the future Summer Session by 2 weeks to add value and make up for time away. All previously purchased Spring Session classes will be available for refund or roll over. Summer session will be kept at the same cost, and runs June 15th through August 23rd.
We are launching a 2020 Summer High School Scholarship Program to Kansas City metro students. Scholarships will waive 100% of the Summer Session cost, and provide unlimited dance classes for Incoming freshman through outgoing Senior students. If you know a student who is interested, please encourage them to apply!
Despite working remotely for the last month, our internal teams haven’t slowed down. We continue to meet online in order to aggressively innovate and find new ways to extend our programming throughout Kansas City during this time. We could not continue to fulfill the needs without support from our donors and patrons. It is more important than ever to support the arts and we sincerely thank all our patrons and partners for their generosity. City in Motion is readily available to answer any questions or provide information on how you can help support our mission and values. Please don’t hesitate to reach out; we’re always a just an email away.
We are confident that together we will learn and grow from our experiences during this crisis and emerge stronger on the other side. The non-profit industry is a resilient one comprised of women and men filled with grit and determination. We're optimistic about the future City in Motion... we are in this fight together!
