About The Event
We invite emerging choreographers to join us in City in Motion’s first ever Young Choreographer Showcase. Those who wish to be a part of YCS will attend a weekend workshop, learning and honing choreographic skills. They will then be able to submit a piece of their own choreography to be adjudicated, and up to three pieces will be chosen to premier as an opening to Modern Night 2024.
General Information:
- YCS 2024 is open to emerging artists aged 13-17. Participants age is determined as of January 2024.
- YCS will accept submissions of solo choreography, choreographed and performed by the same individual
- In order to submit a piece for adjudication, you must join us in the YCS workshop.
- Choreographers may use any music they choose, however it must be family friendly and only contain appropriate lyrics (or be instrumental).
Dates:
- Young Choreographer Workshop: January 6th - 7th (second day optional)
- Submissions Open: January 7th
- Submissions Close: January 19th
- Selected Choreographers Notified: January 26
- Modern Night: February 3rd 7:30 pm
Fees:
- Workshop Fee: $ 125
- Submission Fee: $ 0
- Scholarships will be available. If you are in need of a scholarship to cover the cost of the workshop and/or the submission fee please contact company@cityinmotion.com
Workshop Information:
- Workshop is on January 6th from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
- The day will include a contemporary class, 3 choreography workshops, and a Q&A.
- January 7th is an optional date where students can show any choreography they may have done for their solos and gain feedback. There will be an extra fee of $25 for participation on this day.
Submission Info:
- Those interested in submitting for the Young Choreographer Showcase must fill out the submission form below by January 19
- You will gain access to the submission form following the workshop on the weekend of January 6th.
- You may only submit one piece
- Submissions must include:
- Title of the piece
- Description of the piece
- Link to a video of the piece
- Music title and artist of the song
- Parental Waiver
