About The Event
KANSAS CITY, MO — City in Motion is proud to present its annual Youth Dance Theater (Children’s Dance Theater & Apprentice Company) Concert at 4 p.m. at the St. Teresa’s Academy Auditorium, 5600 Main St. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors and will be available at the door.
The concert will feature Travelers by Kyle Mullins, set to music by Quentin Dujardin and performed by the Apprentice Company. Travelers debuted at the City Stage Theater at Union Station on April 29, 2018, a part of City in Motion Dance Theater's professional company concert, Homage.
Abby Davis will be presenting two pieces for the Children's Dance Theater. She Who Dares, with music by Black Sheep, is an experiment in movement and variation. It is a challenge to girls to reach beyond what is comfortable and to inspire themselves and others. Conjured in the Wind, set to music by Lambert, Agnes Obel, Beta Radio, and Matt Kivel, is a story plot involving the creation of something magical. The conceptualization of this piece, as well as some choreography, was built by both the dancers and the choreographer.
City in Motion School of Dance faculty members Krystal Bryan (Ballet III) and Erin Muenks (Ballet II) will also present pieces. Also featured will be dances choreographed by the students themselves.
The Youth Dance Theater provides an opportunity for students at the City in Motion School of Dance to work on pieces of artistic merit under the direction of professional choreographers. The Youth Dance Theater is made up of 15 members between the ages of 8 and 18 who pursue training in modern, ballet, jazz and improvisation.
