At City in Motion, we often talk about dance as a lifelong journey. Today, we are celebrating a leadership transition that embodies that sentiment.

We are eager to announce that Sierra Laing has stepped into the role of Board President for City in Motion’s Board of Directors as of September 2025!

A Lifelong Connection

For Sierra, City in Motion isn't just an organization—it’s home. As the daughter of longtime dancer and supporter Susan Tower, Sierra practically grew up in our studios. Her history with us spans decades:

• 15+ Years with Youth Dance Theater: Sierra spent over a decade performing, learning, and forging the kind of friendships that only happen backstage and in the studio.

• A Legacy of Support: From student to advocate, she has seen every facet of how CIM impacts the Kansas City community.

• Board Leadership: Since joining the Board in 2019, she has served with unwavering dedication, most recently as our Board Secretary.

This deep-rooted history gives Sierra a unique perspective. She understands our past, honors our traditions, and has a clear vision for our future.

Professional Excellence Meets Artistic Passion

When she isn’t advocating for the arts, Sierra is a force in the Kansas City professional scene. She currently serves as the Assistant Property Manager at Three Light in downtown KC.

By bringing her expertise in luxury apartment management to our leadership team, Sierra offers a powerful blend of organizational strategy and community-building skills. Alongside our Artistic Co-Directors, Bobbi Foudree and Ann Shaugnessy, Sierra is ready to guide City in Motion into its next exciting chapter.
